Barbara Poe

Barbara Dean Poe , 88, entered eternal rest on Thursday, July 9, 2026, in the peace and comfort of her longtime home with loved ones by her side . Barbara was one of seven children born to the late Noble and Edith (McDaniel) Fleener. She was born on Monday, February 28, 1938, in Martinsville, Indiana. Barbara's greatest joy in life was her family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and mamaw. She treasured every opportunity to spend time with her family especially her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She frequently hosted sleepovers, tea parties and planned memorable trips for her family . She enjoyed playing cards, planting flowers and working in her yard, attending horse races, going to casinos and reading the daily newspaper. She also enjoyed vacationing with family and friends, hosting family gatherings and especially loved watching and listening to her husband sing and play music. Barbara had a very special quality of being so full of love that it seemed as if she never met a stranger. She is well known for making everyone she came in contact with feel important and loved even in brief interactions. The doors were always open and welcoming to all at the Poe home. On October 16, 1954, Barbara married the love of her life, William "Bill" Poe. Their love story began while working in a cornfield and has remained as beautiful as it started. Together they shared more than 70 years of love and devotion before Bill preceded her in death on May 14, 2025. She retired from Allison’s Transmissions in Indianapolis.Those left to cherish Barbara's memory include her sons, Martin Lee Poe and Marty Poe, of Martinsville; her daughters, Valri Anderson (Bradley) and Shay Hoskins, of Martinsville; fifteen grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren . In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her daughters, Rhonda Hillman, Tamara Poe, and Lana Poe; her brothers, Chet, Archie, Ronnie, and Donnie Fleener; her sisters, Joan Stewart and Betty Baugh; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild. Family and friends are invited to visit with Barbara's family on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Neal & Summers Funeral & Cremation Center. A memorial service celebrating her life will begin at 7:00 p.m., immediately following visitation at the funeral home.
